4-STAR CONSTELLATIONS (NORTHERN HEMISPHERE)
[Corvus, Crater, Libra, Lynx, Monoceros, Sagitta Sculptor
and Sextans]
digital image, size variable 2007
Prototypes for 8 separate works on canvas

2.

4-STAR CONSTELLATIONS (SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE)
[Apus, Caelum, Chamaeleon, Crux, Mensa, Octans, Phoenix and
Reticulum]
digital image, size variable 2008
Prototypes for 8 separate works on canvas

3.

MODES OF VIBRATION
mixed media on paper
10 x 11cm 2007
[The work is based on sound frequencies. It shows a
fundamental frequency (top) with multiples of overtones.
Fundamentals of Physics: an Introductory Course (D.C. Heath
1987 p347.)]

4.

WRITING WITH LIGHT Language of Theoretical Physics
Goldilocks Zone
mixed media on canvas
20 x 20cm 2006
[The work is based on the term, Goldilocks Zone, used to
describe the narrow band of parameters in which intelligent life
is possible. In this band, Earth and the universe are “just right”
to create the chemicals that are responsible for intelligent life.
Michio Kaku Parallel Worlds (New York: Doubleday 2003 p389.)]

5.

WRITING WITH LIGHT Architectural theory, Steven Holl
mixed media on paper
20 x 20cm 2006
[The work is based on a formula created by architect
Steven Holl for a residence he designed in Dallas, Texas:
Stretto House. Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion and
Celeste inspired him. Steven Holl (London: Thames & Hudson
2003, p228.)]

6.

WRITING WITH LIGHT Probability theory
pastel and oil on panel
25 x 25cm 2006
[The work is based on Frank Drake’s formula for calculating the
probability of finding intelligent - i.e. broadcasting – life. Marina
Benjamin Rocket Dreams (New York: Free Press 2003 p227.)]

7.

WRITING WITH LIGHT Language of Theoretical Physics
Theory of Relativity
mixed media on paper
12.5 x 12.5cm 2008
[The work is based on Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity,
where E is the energy liberated, in joules; m is the mass that
disappears, in kilograms; and c is the speed of light, in metres
per second. A calculation is also visible that shows the amount
of energy liberated if 1.0 kg of mass were completely
transformed into energy. Fundamentals of Physics: an
Introductory Course (D.C. Heath 1987 p722-723.)]

BARDO: THE GOLDEN ETERNITY 1

by Jack Kerouac
